The Clearing by William Landon Farrell

Clear cutting a local forest anywhere in New Hampshire is bound to raise sincere concerns from land abutters and environmental groups. Chuck Baldwin would not be harvesting his timber and the remaining biomass for profit or for generating electricity. Instead, he had a vision that was purposeful and designed to benefit the local ecosystem. Growing up in the town of Weston, Massachusetts, his family owned six acres of land where they planted 200 red pine trees and tended to an expansive garden. During the summers, his family frequently visited his great grandfather’s farm in Canaan, New Hampshire and he recalls that it was a special place to visit and recreate. Weeks after his birth in 1961, Chuck’s father carried him to the summit of Cardigan Mountain in a backpack. Since then, he has climbed Cardigan practically every single year of his life. From early on, he was instilled with his family’s values of land stewardship, and he wanted to do something similarly.

“The Clearing” by William Landon Farrell is a privately funded publication and is not available to the general public.
